Prefab IKEA Table
Poplar
Basswood
The first iteration of this table involved filling the cardboard honeycomb structure with 2 part epoxy resin, with the intent to carve out the negative spaces with a CNC router so the wooden parts fit perfectly. I learned very quickly that the resin curing process generates quite a lot of heat. So much so, in fact, that the table caught fire.
This was also very early in my woodworking education, so I didn’t have a lot of confidence in my ability to clean up the tool marks left by the carving process.
