Dog Bed

Walnut
Plywood

The dog judges the quality of her life by how easily she can see out the front window.  Her cushion wasn’t nearly tall enough, so she needed a solution.

The first step was to create a jig so I could cut the legs at an angle to match the legs of the sofa already in the living room.

Next I decided to use a joint I had never tried before, called a castle joint.  Getting a deep cut in the legs proved to be challenging.  I ended up boring the centers out with a drill press and chiseling out the rest.  It never even occurred to me to try to do the cuts with a handsaw.

I found the process challenging and rewarding, but I’m not sure the dog was as impressed.
