This project began as a call-for-entries for a charity event benefitting the ASID San Diego chapter. Everyone was provided two 1/2″ sheets of MDF and told to “make art.”
I started by cutting the cross-sections with a scroll saw, stacking and gluing the rings, and sanding them down to make the rounded contours.
After some Bondo and paint I was left unimpressed and decided that the pistachio needed some ornamentation. A mustache was the obvious choice.
It turns out the organizers expected everyone to paint their panels and display them on easels throughout the event. My poor pistachio got sat on a table and no one really knew what to make of it. It did get bid on and purchased, so in the end it was a successful fundraising project!
